THEME: GRACE TO THE HUMBLE

READ: PHILIPPIANS 2:5-11

THEME VERSE(S): *But He gives more and more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)*

The Grace of God is God’s favourable disposition toward us and blessings to us through Jesus Christ. The grace of God is the riches of God at the expense of Christ or through the sufferings of Christ. We have to remember that although grace is a free gift to us, grace was not free. Grace was not free, it cost Jesus everything. Therefore, the grace of God is “God’s unmerited favour and blessing through Christ to those who deserve His curse”.

To receive the grace of God, we must be humble. Humility is important to God; it’s the pre-requisite to receiving God’s grace. Humility is a sense of nothingness, which comes when we see how truly God is all, and in which we make way for God to be all in our lives. Humility is the sacrifice of self. The humble before God will receive His grace. We are to be humble before God and towards one another. The Lord Jesus was highly exalted because of humility.

We are exhorted to be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (1Peter 5:6). Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18). Listen! The Christian’s humility starts with God but a lack of humility toward each other reveals the same lack of humility toward God. Pride toward each other is pride toward God. Humility toward one another is humility toward God and He promises to reward our humility with grace.

God gives grace to the humble, comes to the aid of the lowly, and blesses the poor in spirit. The humble heart is a submissive heart, an obedient heart, a childlike heart, a heart full of faith, a heart able to trust God even to death. The humble heart doesn’t fight for self, even when right. It’s not defensive. It fights for God to be glorified. Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time (1Peter 5:6). God gives grace to the humble.

I pray that you will be clothed with humility, imitate the humility of Christ, walk in humility and receive the grace of God to walk in dominion in Jesus Name.
