_Key Bible Text:_
*Those who obey their human nature cannot please God. But you do not live as your human nature tells you to; instead, you live as the Spirit tells you to---if, in fact, God's Spirit lives in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.* (Romans 8:8-9 (GNB))

_Bible Insight:_
_The Spirit of Christ_ is the most direct reference to the Holy Spirit, linking Him expressly as the representative and personal possession of Jesus-the Christ. The Spirit of God is in every sense the Spirit of Christ at the same time. However, when you consider the name, the Spirit of Christ, you must realize again how Christ--focused the Holy Spirit is.

This should remind us of Christ's own very words: John 14:16, 18 (KJV) says it aptly, *"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;...I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you."* Please observe the words "Another Comforter"-- yet another beautiful revelation of a dimension of the Holy Spirit. This name, shows clearly that the Spirit of Christ stands with us in every way that Christ would in person stand with us.

The evidence of the presence of the Spirit of Christ is not in words but in deeds-- *"you do not live as your human nature tells you to; instead, you live as the Spirit tells you to---if, in fact, God's Spirit lives in you"* Nothing confirms the indwelling of the Spirit of Christ in the life of a believer than the observable lifestyle of obedience to the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of Christ deactivates the "human nature mode" (filled with all human tendencies) and activates the Spirit Controlled Mode!

The Spirit of Christ does not only assure us the presence of "another comforter" but he engenders the life of Christ in us making us "little Christs". This is actually what led to the name "Christians" when the first set of believers were observed and their lives unmistakably reminded their observers of Christ. What spirit controls you? Is it the Spirit of Christ? Or the spirit of the human nature?

*If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you. So then, my friends, we have an obligation, but it is not to live as our human nature wants us to.* (Romans 8:11-12 (GNB))
