_Key Bible Text:_
*It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.* (Galatians 5:1)

_Bible Insight:_
Growing up, there was never a more confusing statement than the fact that there is freedom in Christ. I mean, every worldly person out there who had no regard for God, including Christians who didn’t really care for their Christianity seemed to be having so much fun while I, a Christian in a serious Christian family seemed to be in bondage. I am sure you can relate.

Well, I think differently now. First, sin has an overwhelming power, it controls its hosts, if you are under its control, and it will steal your right to say no to it.

Drunkards, liars, thieves and fornicators (amongst others) lament on how they cannot control their urges. So much lamentation about not being able to control one’s self. Sin rubs them of their peace and creates a void. It’s practically impossible for a sinful man to experience peace because though he may not know, his spirit knows he is in bondage.

Freedom from the shackles of sin is part of the package of your salvation. By stepping into salvation you receive power to overcome sin. That is why self-control is one of the fruits of the Spirit. Only a freed person can experience true peace. Christ gives you dominion over sin’s seductions; you are no longer a slave to sin but you are now free. *Don’t envy the worldly lifestyle, it’s a misnomer that has been made normal.* They seem free but now you know better.

*Through Him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the Law of Moses.* (Acts 13: 28-39)
