"Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body."

1 Corinthians 6:18

"So, flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart."

2 Timothy 2:22

We see that in the bible when it concerns temptation, we are advised to flee. In order words to run not walk but run like a sprinter. Like someone in physical danger which is not different from what sin is. ("The wages of sin is death ... " Romans 6:23). A good example that exemplifies this running skill which we are encouraged to acquire is the scene of Joseph and Potiphar's wife. We know the story, on this faithful day after many failed advances she decided to force herself on Joseph. Take note, nobody was at home that day, just her and Joseph. But Joseph saw the danger and ran for his dear spiritual life. And then he was sent to prison. At this point, some worldly people would have said he was foolish and naive. Everything was conducive for sin: No one was at home and a beautiful woman. Where did Joseph get his courage and determination to not just walk away but to run? Like any athlete there is motivation, preparation, and drive behind his success and that is what we should find out. So how can we be a sprinter like Joseph? Here are a few secrets and reminders from my humble self:

1. Set my priorities right in terms of what is most important to me. God at the top, then maybe my family, my job etc. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom". Proverbs 9:10. "Seek He first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and every other thing shall be added..." Mathew 6:33. Joseph had made up his mind before this temptation that God was his top priority. He said, " ...How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? "

2. Spiritual smartness, be quick to obey before the devil brings second and third thoughts. The word says "Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out." Corinthian 10:13. Take note “the way out” is, for example, to leave that place of sin immediately. Do not stay there resisting temptation when you can flee. And do not look back like lot's wife who looked back and was turned to a pillar of salt. Just run to safety first. A way out too is something else you should be doing. Since temptations are also in the mind it means also other thoughts you should be dwelling on instead of those bad thoughts. For instance, counting your blessings when you feel attacked by depressing thoughts.

3. Constantly feed on the word of God along with prayer and fasting. In this way, my spirit is energetic and fresh. Ready to run from temptation without sluggishness because the truth is fresh in your heart.

4. Faith in God’s love. Knowing that He is our provider and shield. His time is the best. So why settle for less.

Prayer Point:

Let's us pray for the body of Christ to be filled with the holy spirit so that we can always be agile for the lord and ready to run from temptation with all spiritual smartness.
